What is a dongle ?

Dongle

A dongle (copy protection plug) is a small box made of metal and plastic , including a memory chip with a key code. The software, which is protected by the dongle, checks at irregular intervals, if a dongle with valid code key exists. If this is not the case, the program ends. The dongle is the key to activate CRANIMATION. A valid dongle indicates to the program, that the user has a legally purchased license. This means, that every dongle represents one license (full version) of the program. Therefore, if only one dongle has been purchased and copies of CRANIMATION are installed on several computers, the dongle must be moved each time for the software to work. To use CRANIMATION on two computers at the same time, a second license (full version) must be purchased. As a result, the customer can now use CRANIMATION at two different places, simultaneously, without having to move the dongle.

How is the dongle used ?

The dongle is only put on a free USB port of the CRANIMATION workplace.
A red LED is lighting to show the funcionality of the dongle.


How can I get a dongle ?

A dongle for CRANIMATION will be sent to you by the company craniMAX GmbH when you...

  1. purchase a license (full version) of CRANIMATION from us
  2. receive a CRANIMATION data basic package with your TEREX-DEMAG crane, purchased after September 1, 2002, and this package is your first license of CRANIMATION.

    What does this mean ?

    Since September 1, 2002, when buying any new TEREX-DEMAG crane, craniMAX GmbH has included a first release of the CRANIMATION data (outrigger forces/ground pressures for that purchased crane) free of charge. In addition, we provide, at no extra charge, a copy of the newest CRANIMATION data Version.
    If the customer already possesses a dongle (full version), it can be used to activate the basic CRANIMATION data package. If he doesn’t have a dongle (the supplied basic package represents his first license), one can be requested, at no extra charge, from craniMAX GmbH.

    Therefore, an order form is enclosed in the basic package to fill out and fax to craniMax GmbH. You can also request a dongle with the online-form.

Troubleshooting

Dongle Fehlermeldung When CRANIMATION is activated, the dongle is accurately inserted. Errors caused by the dongle, will produce the following message:

If you receive this error message, please check:

  1. Have you installed the right dongle driver? The USB Dongle of CRANIMATION V2.5, V2.6 and V3.0 is called CRYPTO-Box USB. A specific driver installation is normally not necessary for version 2.4 and below. For version 2.5 and higher the driver installation is done with the CRANIMATION setup. Should for some reason the driver not have been installed right, it can be reinstalled. The installation program CbSetup is included on the CRANIMATION installation CD-ROM. You can also download it here:CbSetup.zip (381KB). Simply start CbSetup.exe and follow the installation hints.
  2. if the dongle is connected right and the driver is loaded right, on one side of the dongle lights a red LED.
  3. Eventually the dongle can not be found at the chosen USB Port. Use another port. Do not use USB Hubs or extension cables. It is not possible to use a dongle on an USB port of another Computer in a LAN.
